Weather in Bucharest

Bucharest has hot dry summers and cold winters - a traditional continental climate. Winters are rather windy due to Bucharest's location on the Romanian Plain; as the city gets further built up areas, though, the force of the winds is not felt so intensely inside the city.

The temperatures in Bucharest in winter often fall below 0 °C (32 °F), although they rarely go below -10 °C (14 °F). The average summer temperature for July and August is 23 °C (73 °F); however, Bucharest temperatures can reach as high as 35 °C (95 °F) to 40 °C (104 °F) during mid-summer. Rainfall and humidity is low during summer but there can be heavy and even violent storms occasionally. Spring and autumn temperatures in Bucharest range between 18 °C (64 °F) and 22 °C (72 °F). Mild rainfall occurs during spring and autumn.

The city has four well defined seasons. Springtime weather can be tricky as it switches between sunshine and rain. The hottest summer months are July and August, which are also the busiest tourist months. Autumn days are wonderfully warm and sunny, and the city's parks are a great place to see leaves change colour. Winters are cold but Bucharest gets only a moderate amount of snowfall.
